Beginning their journey the Enlightenment group slammed together in a few weeks by David Benedict Brown and Ashley Rutherford began working almost on a whim on their first production Collage: An Homage to Kurt Schwitters. A play exploring themes of global culture vicariously throuh the art and life of Kurt Schwitters, written by Ian Kluge. Next for Enlightenment was George F. Walker's Zastrozzi, following close upon the heels of Collage, this time with more support from the community Enlightenment chose Granville Island as a venue. In the following months Enlightenment Theatre laid low in the wake of the larger production. As for its original players Ashley and David, Ashley has since re-located to New York City to attend the Stella Addler Conservatory while David has been hard at work writing. Having recently returned from an American debut in San Francisco California David and Enlightenment have great plans for the future. |

| Ashley Rutherford
Originally from Prince George, BC Ashley now makes her home in New Westminster where she attended The Douglas College Theatre Program until 2005. Since receiving her Theatre diploma Ashley has worked on such productions as Amira Productions’ “The Watermelon Girls” (The Devil’s Daughter), Shrimp Pate’s “Cannibal: The Musical” (Vocal Director), Hoarse Raven Theatre’s “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding” (Celeste Romano), United Player’s “Iphigenia in Aulis” (Chorus) and Iliana Panagotouni’sAnglo-Greco production “When Eros Wounded Me” (Medea). A baby clown graduate from Fantastic Space Enterprises, Ashley is also a self-employed bum, who scrounges up extra cash working in the world of tv commercials, dinner theatre and kids' birthday parties. Currently, she may be seen going through a trash bin in your neighborhood - she's not really a bum though, she just has a deep appreciation for great art. |
